News broke earlier this year that Nike would be retroing the original Hyperdunk,
one of the brand's most beloved basketball shoes released in the past
15 years. That isn’t going to be the only Hyperdunk dropping this year,
though. Nike is also releasing a new Hyperdunk 2016 ahead of the Olympic
Games in Brazil.
The Hyperdunk
2016’s most distinctive feature is the super hightop Flyknit sock that
resembles the compression sock liner seen on the KD8 Elite.
However this high top is not made of the same compression material.
Another notable upgrade for the sneaker is the addition of a full length
Zoom Air across the entire sole, which will provide greater support and
cushioning for vertically oriented players. Flywire cabling on the
entire forefoot ensures the wearer experiences minimal sliding when
making quick cuts.
Our only
concern would be the durability and protection the shoe offers, as it’s
covered entirely in the very soft and supple Flyknit. Great for
breathability in running shoes, but if someone steps on you it might
hurt.
The Nike Hyperdunk 2016
is set to release this July. There will also be traditional high top and
low top version available, but this “elite” model is the biggest step
forward for Nike.
